People are always trying to start their own small businesses or go freelance, thanks to the appeal of keeping your own time. The ideas never stop, too, from the traditional to the not-so-conventional. Start-up costs, however, can discourage some from pushing through with their ideas. Here are a few that won’t clean out your pockets when you get work-from-home urge.
1. Virtual Assistance. Love clerical work, but aren't too keen on the environment? Virtual assistant jobs online let you work from the comfort of home. Once you’re done with your tasks, you don’t have to worry about your boss checking to see if you’re not looking at cute cat pictures.
2. Doggie daycare. People own pets, but not all of them are home during the day – so what’s a pooch to do? Tear up furniture, maybe. Pet owners can drop their 4-legged friends off in the mornings and pick them up again after work. Having other dogs to play with means won’t feel lonely, making for a happy pet.
3. Custom Jewelry. Cookie-cutter jewelry is a thing of the past. Nowadays, people look for one-of-a-kind trinkets they can proudly say no one else has. Whether you work with papier-mâché, clay, or metal, you’re sure to find a market for your creations at bazaars and the like.
4. Event planning. People like planning parties and other events, but not everyone has the time to make sure everything’s ready. If you like helping friends with their aunt’s birthday celebration or a brother’s wedding, chances are you’d make a good event planner or coordinator.
5. Photography. Everyone wants to capture the good times on film, but good photographers can be hard to find sometimes. You might need to spend a bit on additional equipment, but at least they’re not one-use items. Build a good client base, and income won’t be an issue for long.
6. Web development. You can either help other small firms put together their websites, or teach people how to do it. You’d still earn money either way.
7. Writing. If you have a way with words, this is the job for you. As a web content writer, for instance, you could do a company’s blogging for them, or write for an online magazine. You could even write scripts for movies or TV series, if that’s your forte. Sky’s the limit with this one.
